How to Select the Right Vacuum Pump for Your Application

Choosing the right vacuum pump starts with your working pressure, not the catalogue. First define the pressure range your process actually needs: rotary vane pumps cover rough vacuum down to around 0.06 Pa (two-stage), while Roots pumps deliver high pumping speed in the medium-high vacuum range when backed by a fore-vacuum pump.
Second, estimate the pumping speed required to reach your target pressure within an acceptable time. Undersized pumps lengthen cycle times; oversized ones waste energy. Third, look at the media and conditions: dust, water vapour, condensable solvents or corrosive gases all influence whether you need gas ballast, oil-mist separators, inlet filters or special seals.
Finally, consider the complete system. A Roots pump alone cannot exhaust to atmosphere — it needs a suitable backing pump, and the matching between them determines real performance. With four decades of experience since 1978, Boao engineers help customers match ZJ/ZJP Roots pumps and 2XZ rotary vane pumps to real working conditions.
